"I know you understand, Hyde. And so I'm on the run now. Nile wants me dead. Cops want me dead. Some life, huh, partner? Stop looking for me, Kyle. My way is a dead-end street. Let me go. I'm a ghost now."

Brian Bradley is the ex-partner of the one and only Kyle Hyde. He is a minor character in Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

Background[]

Working alongside Kyle as his partner and close friend in the NYPD, in December of 1976, Bradley was assigned as an undercover cop in the Nile case where the crime syndicate Nile were stealing art. Soon, Bradley was approached by "Norman" A.K.A Robert Evans who informed him that Nile had taken Bradley's kid sister Mila hostage. He then made a deal with him. He had to disclose secret police information to the criminal group. If he didn't comply, Mila would be killed. During this time working as a forced informant for Nile, Bradley discovered the secrets behind Nile itself including Dunning Smith being the "Phantom Painter" Osterzone and that Dunning's daughter was kidnapped by Nile too.

As his work continued he came across "Angel Opening A Door", the masterpiece of Osterzone. Feeling Dunning's pain of having a loved one kidnapped, Bradley takes the painting and a case of money after shooting one of his associates. The associate was Danny, best friend to Louis DeNonno who was connected to Kyle Hyde. Before long, Bradley was able to see his sister again. However, he was too late; Mila was dead. He thought Mila's life was taken by the hands of Robert Evans. Evans also attempted to convince Bradley to work for him and he was able to bring Bradley back aboard. Despite his choice, Bradley had only one goal in mind -- kill Robert Evans

Around this time, Hyde found out about Bradley's treachery. On December 24th, 1976, Kyle confronted him on the New York docks. A furious Hyde shot Bradley and he fell into the Hudson river. Bradley managed to survive and continued to hunt Evans. Six months before the events of Hotel Dusk: Room 215, Bradley turns up at Robbins Memorial Hospital where Evans' daughter Mila Evans was. She was laying on the bed in her designated room due to being in a comatose state. Seeing his kid sister in Mila, he felt so nostalgic and gave her the bracelet he was wearing; the bracelet which used to belong to his sister.

Soon after, Bradley arrived at Hotel Dusk. That night, he had a few drinks with Dunning and starts talking to him about Nile, about Evans, about everything. Dunning pretended not to know anything but Bradley kept talking. Before leaving, Bradley left the "Angel Opening A Door" painting in room 217 of Hotel Dusk, the same room he had been staying in. Along with that, he left clues for his old partner Hyde to pick up on, including writing a signature on the hotel registration form using Kyle's own name. It is heavily implied that Bradley had succeeded in hunting him down, which was when he caught Evans during one of his hospital visits and killed him.

After finishing what he set out to do, Bradley was on the run from Nile as well as the police. Leaving behind a handwritten note for Kyle to find, he told his ex-partner to give up chasing him because there was no point in chasing a "ghost". His fate is unknown.

Last Window: The Secret of Cape West[]

"That's ancient history, Mom. I'm done looking for Bradley."

Bradley wasn't seen in the game, however he is given a mention in Kyle's telephone conversation with his mother Jeanie Hyde, in the same conversation Kyle said he was done looking for him since Kyle got the closure he needed. He presumably didn't bother to learn about his whereabouts anymore either because he felt it would have been a hopeless effort if he continued to search for him or doesn't want to go against his ex-partner's wishes. Bradley was also mentioned in the in-game novel of the same name.

Trivia[]

  • There's not much info about his relationship with his young sister, but it's implied that he had a close relationship as her brother when he described in his letter to Kyle about his grief when he carried the dead Mila in his hands and sworn revenge towards Evans for killing her.
  • He used to play billiards with Kyle.
  • He used his former partner's name, specifically when he visited Robbins Memorial Hospital and Hotel Dusk.
  • It's stated that he's taller than Kyle.
  • Bradley's alternate name "J" is possibly coincidental since it's the nickname for Jonathan Weaver, the main protagonist of Again, which was released afterwards.
  • It can be theorized that he took his kid sister's bracelet to remember her by and as a way to have a piece of her with him, considering that he seemingly has a close relationship with Mila.
