Chris Hyde is Kyle's father and Jeanie's husband who lost his life on his last job as a safe cracker 25 years ago while searching for the Scarlet Star. He passed away when Kyle was 9 years old. He was never arrested and was well-known in the field.
Background[]
At some point, he encountered Jeanie and they fell in love. The two of them got married and had a son named Kyle. He was affiliated with the world of crime, working as a safecracker. According to Jack Green, he was also in league with Condor and he knew the truth about Nile. He was rarely at home due to being busy but spend time with his son when he had the opportunity. Kyle can recall playing catch with him at a park as well.
Chris was planning to quit the crime gig to focus more on raising his family, but he couldn't cut his ties to his former acquaintances. He was contacted by Frank Raver to break open the safe that contained the stolen jewels from the hotel manager's room of Hotel Cape West. In exchange for his co-operation, Frank was to make certain incidents from his past disappear, and the police would have made sure that any ties to the criminal world were truly severed.
At first he had been against the idea, so Frank had tried a different approach. As a kind of advance payment, he gave him the key to a new car, a commonplace practice in operations like this. The signal of his success was to shine a flashlight out the window to notify Frank who would be waiting outside the hotel. But no matter how many times he shone his flashlight, he received no response, no backup because Frank wasn't there.
That night, Hugh Speck gave Frank a note informing him that his wife's condition had worsened, and that he should go to the hospital to be with her. The operation didn't quite go according to plan and the police were unable to step in and he was never able to leave the building alive because he was fatally shot by Michael McGrath in the room 406 and Chris' dead body got stored in the chest freezer for two days. Then, Michael made Mike and Peter take it to a downtown parking lot where it was found three days after his murder by Ed Vincent and he told the bad news to his wife and son.
At some point before his death, Chris had a drink with Frank and he was tougher than Frank thought. Chris didn't talk much but told him that his son wanted to become a baseball star when he grows up.

Hotel Dusk: Room 215[]
He was first mentioned in Hotel Dusk: Room 215 as a friend of Ed Vincent. The suitcase Kyle has was his father's. During chapter 7, Louis tells Kyle about the motivational story he told him about his dad in the past during the third time Kyle busted him. He mentioned that he was a genius safecracker and he always wanted to be an artist and decided to go straight but at the end he took one last job and was murdered when Kyle was just 10 years old. At first, Louis thought that the story was fake but then Kyle confirmed it to him that it wasn't. So this game previously established the base of his history of the sequel of this game.
Last Window: The Secret of Cape West[]
In this game, he receives his official name Chris. He is a major character and the game focuses on solving his murder 25 years ago. Also, the relation between him and Ed Vincent is expanded.
