Last Window: The Secret of Cape West is an in-game novel authored by Martin Summer that recounts the events of the game by the same title. Each chapter of the novel gets unlocked every time its in-game equivalent will be beaten, with a cutscene notifying the player as well.

The novel's contents act as a story novelization and recap for each chapter, written from the perspective of a third person narrator that adds in further details into the mindset of the characters and their actions, as well as bits and pieces of backstory. Several events are shaped by the actions of the player in-game (such as methods used in some puzzles, or choice of drink from the vending machine), making every novel a custom experience.

It can be accessed at any time by the player after they load a save, or by selecting the Angel Opening a Door bookmark on the in-game menu, where they can choose their starting point in reading the novel, as well as choice of reading music from the jukebox. Said bookmark can also be placed by the player in order to pick up where they left off at a later time.

At the end of each cleared chapter, a sealed file will be available, titled "Notes Concerning Kyle Hyde". Written from the perspective of the author, its contents not only offer additional backstory regarding Kyle Hyde, but also tips that can help the player when they're stuck. However, if the player chooses to not unseal any file until they clear the game, another sealed file will be unlocked, containing extra information related to the overall events of the game.

Depending on the player's speed when unsealing a file, it will unseal without issues under a patient slide of the stylus, or tear apart from the rushed moves, with tape patches showing up on the other side of the page's tears. After saving the game, this visual consequence will be permanent.
