Louis "Louie" DeNonno, known in Japan and Korea as Louis Franco[1][2], is a friend of Kyle Hyde who works as a bellhop in Hotel Dusk. Previously, he used to pick pockets in New York City. He is a major character in Hotel Dusk: Room 215.
Background[]
As Louis was growing up, he bonded with a person called Danny. He became friends with him, as both shared similar lives. The two friends were both street pick pockets, notably in New York and Louis' constant thieving resulted in Kyle arresting him on many occasions. Danny and Louis didn't have relatives or family, making them orphans essentially. Under Nile, Danny acted as their delivery boy, carrying the money the criminal organization made with insurance fraud and art theft. Louis on the other hand was seemingly just a thief who worked for them and Kyle claims that Louis also worked at a pizza joint in the East Village.
As adults, they were a part of a plan which involved stealing an extremely rare and expensive collector's painting from Nile's warehouse. They attempted to steal this painting to free themselves from their need to steal any more money. Danny wished to live a better life along with Louis, as both felt they couldn't keep working for Nile. If the plan worked, they would escape from the city as people with new identities. Danny became obsessed with this plan and even planned to take Nile's entire collection. Louis thought it was too risky and tried to stop him, but Danny refused. The two agreed to meet at a restaurant if the job was a success.
Danny went on to pursue his plan while carrying Nile's money from a recent operation at the time, however, he didn't come to the restaurant as established. Worried, Louis went to Nile's warehouse and as soon as he began opening the door, he heard a gunshot. Louis hid immediately, and peeked from the door; inside the room was J with a gun in his hand, and Danny, laid on the floor, wounded and crying. Louis did not intervene, as he lacked any weapon, until J left along with Nile's money and the angel painting. Under weak breath, Danny apologized to Louis for his failure in acquiring them the money, and explained that J double-crossed him, as he was in fact an undercover cop.
After his death, Louis was forced to leave the city due to grief. He went to Los Angeles, California and ended up working at Hotel Dusk.
Hotel Dusk: Room 215[]
When Kyle gets his package in Chapter 1, Louis attempts to anonymously deliver the package and get away without being noticed for his identity, but he is recognized by Kyle due to way he talked.
He later speaks with him about what happened with Brian and Danny in his room. It's through Kyle that he finds out Nile suspect Louis of stealing their money, resulting in Louis panicking and confessing to Kyle that he left Manhattan to get over Danny's death and not simply because he wanted to.
Personality[]
When he was younger, Louis was somewhat greedy but when he moved to Los Angeles, he changed his ways. Nowadays, he is generally friendly to people however he can appear violent when angry or sad, which is triggered by any mention of Danny. Other than that, Louis can be quite lazy to the point Rosa sees him as useless (to the point she says she has to do everything herself) and Dunning wants to sack him if he slacks off any further. Louis also acts like a "dunce" sometimes and he has an affinity toward 'hot' girls - such as Mila or the models from the girlie mag Kyle was instructed to find. Louis can also fake a formal demeanor as shown in Chapter 3.
Relationships[]
Danny[]
Kyle Hyde[]
Louis had many run-ins with Kyle during his time as a pickpocket in NY. Kyle often had to interrogate him, telling him to stop his pickpocketing for good. The two of them decide to become proper friends during Hotel Dusk: Room 215, so Kyle doesn't get kicked out for snooping around the hotel.
Mila Evans[]
Louis has a crush on Mila for her appearance. He was interested on her, but he was often 'ignored' by Mila whenever he tried to talk to her. Later, when Mila gets to hear Dunning's whole story about Robert Evans, Nile, Brian and Danny, Louis supports Mila staying, as he understood that it was important for her as it is for him to learn the whole story about what happened to Danny.
Brian Bradley[]
Louis knows Bradley as J through Danny talking about him. After seeing Bradley kill Danny, he is shown to hate Bradley for what he did.

Trivia[]
- He only appears in Hotel Dusk: Room 215, but his song appears again in Last Window: Secret of Cape West.
- In Another Code: R - A Journey into Lost Memories, his photo can be found.
- In chapter 10, Louis mentioned a cartoon with a dog and a guy who is always hungry when he discovers a hidden door with Kyle. This is possibly referencing the Scooby-Doo franchise because it could refer to the characters, Scooby and Shaggy. This is seen only in the English, Spanish, and German translations.
